BarentsPortal is a project implemented under the Joint Norwegian-Russian Commission on Environmental Protection. The portal is a joint Norwegian - Russian instrument designed for the mutual exchange and presentation of information and environmental data relevant to the integrated environmental management of the Barents Sea. Barentsportal serve as a tool for publishing of  environmental status in the marine areas, and for further cooperation on ecosystem based management of the Barents Sea.

BarentsPortal is a combined web site. It consists of elements, reflecting the ongoing project work within the frame of the Norwegian-Russian commission on environmental protection. One of the main tasks is a presentation of the joint Norwegian - Russian environmental status report for the Barents Sea with regular joint updates of the state of the ecosystem, including its ecosystem components and anthropogenic affects. Another task is an extended Map service. This service, that show thematic maps that shall contribute to simplify presentation of geographically data, will be continually developed and published when new environmental data become available. The technical part of the Barentsportal is developed and managed by the Norwegian Polar Institute in close cooperation with SEVMORGEO.
