The Barents Sea is used by a variety of vessels type e.g. fishing vessels, tankers and bulk carriers, military vessels, other cargo vessels and passenger ships. The volume of shipping in the area will be influenced by the development in the petroleum industry in the area and the future possible cargo shipping route through the north-east passage .
